Creative Time Summit Screening
Fri, Nov 14, 2014 at 11am
Consider the intersection of art and social justice during a screening of the 2014 Creative Time Summit at the Henry. Creative Time is a New York based nonprofit arts organization which focuses on innovative, site-specific, socially engaged public art works. Each year, the Creative Time Summit explores ways in which artists are tackling challenging social and political issues.
This year's conference in Stockholm, held in partnership with Public Art Agency Sweden, will “investigate the challenges of migration, the growth of extreme nationalism and homophobia, the uses of the public sphere, [and] the fluid line between surveillance and our interpersonal selves.” The screening will highlight the role art plays in addressing these themes by showcasing the works and strategies of artists, writers, activists, and curators from around the world.
During the day on Friday, sit in to watch sessions which investigate artists work as it relates to Nationalisms, Performing the City, and Activating Public Space, broadcasted from the summit in Stockholm. Between sessions on Friday and Saturday, engage with students of the University of Washington’s ART365: Art and Social Practice course, in activities and discussions surrounding themes of the Summit.
On Friday evening, attend a panel discussion with artists and creatives from the Seattle area, as they address themes and topics from the summit, and connect to projects and activities here in our community.
