Join Paris-based German sculptor Katinka Bock for a discussion held in conjunction with her first major U.S. exhibition, Katinka Bock: A and I, on view at the Henry February 1 – May 4.

Cornish College of the Arts and Henry Art Gallery have formed a new partnership to present INCITE•INSIGHT, a series of public lectures and performances that promote engagement with contemporary art practice. Invited artists, curators, and thinkers will visit Seattle for short residencies to interact with students through group conversation and studio visits. The series emphasizes and advances the long-standing commitment that Cornish and the Henry share in support of meaningful dialogues around the social and cultural impact of art and the ideas of our time.

The Henry welcomes Paris-based German sculptor Katinka Bock for her first major U.S. exhibition. Working in various media, Bock challenges normative associations with everyday materials. Installations that appear to be neglectful, nonchalant positioning of objects transform idle, minimally-manipulated found materials into artful objects that demand deliberate reflection. Bock received a degree in Fine Arts and Sculpture from the Art Academy Berlin-Weissensee in 2002 and received her Post-Doc from the National School of Fine Arts, Lyon in 2005. Bock has exhibited internationally in solo and group exhibitions at institutions such as Tate Modern, London (2008), Culturgest, Lisbon (2012), Biennial Marrakech, Morocco (2012), and Public Art Fund, New York (2012/13). She received the Ricard Foundation Prize in 2012, for the exhibition ,“évocateur”, designed by Elena Filipovic in 2012. Bock was recently an artist-in-residence at Villa Medici in Rome, and was awarded the Dorothea von Stetten Kunstpreis in Germany.
